The majority of the work in this challenge involved cleaning up the cracks and mildew. I used the cloning, dodge, and burn tools to clean up an area. Once the area was fairly clean, I used the dust and scratches tool to attain smooth transitions. Then I added noise. The hair texture was made using the dodge and burn tools.

WOW!! Great job. The skin looks perfect. I had a hard time smoothing without losing detail. I guess I have much more to learn.

Thank you for your kind comments. Since it is hard to be objective on your own work, you never know how it will be perceived. Your response is very gratifying

Barbie,
You have done a beautiful job on this one. Amazing how well it came out considering how bad it was in the beginning. Excellent!!

Excellent work on a difficult image -- I think that you did a wonderful job of retaining the character of the man while cleaning up the damage.

WOW! This is terrific work.
I have been lurking here for a few weeks now and reading and looking at the excellent work you guys and gals do here. I have picked up a few really good tips. I am new to PS and photo restoration... its my retirement projest.. . This forum has been helping me a great deal. I have a picture that has very similar damage as Grandpa. Maybe I should post my picture here as a challenge.
