First, I had to take a real long, hard look at the background of this picture. The photographer in this case needs to be beaten. He took a beautiful baby, in a beautiful dress, sat her in a beautiful chair... then propped her up with two of the most god awful ugly, misshapened pieces that even the Goodwill would reject. It even looks like the background is a double exposure as well. I decided this baby didn't deserve such a horrible and distracting background so I cut it out.

Historical note: Just because this baby is in a dress, doesn't mean she is a girl. During this period, male infants were put in dresses as well.

Next, I worked on the face. Since the right side of her face was relatively good and there were no bad shadows to deal with, I lasso'd most of it, copied, pasted and flipped it, then blended it in on the left side of her face using the clone, dodge and burn tools.

Did the same thing with her good hand.

Did the same thing with the top of her dress - actually did it twice.

I then cleaned up the main part of the dress the best I could using clone, dodge and burn. I didn't put the time and effort that Adoa did on the dress because A) I didn't want it to distract from the baby and B) he is better than I am at it.

I then created another layer for the sepia gradiant oval.

I then masked the dress and added sepia tone to the baby. This gave a warm feel to the baby and really made the white of the dress stand out.

Great job on the christening gown. You really gave it alot of detail and lace. Well done.
