Using Photoshop and PhotoBrush
1] Desaturated then lightened to bring out the details better.
2] Selected all, copied and used to open new image of same size, filled with centre gradient.
3] On original used Extract tool to select the young lady.
4] Moved result to graduated image.
5] A lot of swapping between 'Shop and 'Brush using various brushes to arrrive at end result.
6] Gave it a slight sepia tone.

Good job, Nick, especially on that difficult neck. The eyebrows may have got too soft but I love how you put the sparkle back into the eyes to make them look clear and bright.
And NICE job with extract tool... I don't think most folks really appreciate what that one can do.

Thanks for noticing that about the eyebrows Phyllis, had another look at the original and they are hardly there, but should have been, you have a sharp eye. Going to have a go at a retouch colour version, and they will have to be put in. Once again thank you

Hey Nick Phyliss does not miss anyhting. NIce clean up, I agree with Phyliss. Isn't it amazing how we can work so hard and miss someting simple, My second one I made the neck larger then it is supposed to be.
BY the way I love the extract tool as well.

I like the way you have handled the hair, picking the most textured bits and moving them around really works well. I too like the neck, it was a difficult area due to the shadow and lighting.

Thanks for the comments, Phil and Mike, for the neck I lightened the image considerably, blew it up and sat back, using the contours of her chin and the placement of the beads the vertical neck line can just be seen.

I especially like the way the highlights in the hair are not lost.

I had the most trouble with the hair nick. I like what you did. I am catching some brush marks and a bit of smudge on the right side. You don't usually miss that stuff.
