Loved this face. It's so happy, what does he know we don't I needed practice colorizing so thought I would give this challenge a whirl.

PhotoShop 7, Wacom Tablet

After trying several ways to colorize, I found the way most comfortable for me. I used soft and hard brushes, using the color picker I painted directly on the image (layer). I had a layer for the pants, shirt, hat, skin tones, wood. I adjusted the opacity and used mostly the color blend mode.
When everything was colorized I zoomed in at 200% to check if there was any color spill over. There was a little. I used the color picker and small brush to clean up any spray of unwanted color. I darkened the cigar and shadow with the burn tool, midtones, 10%.
I applied a swirl frame in PhotoImpact that came across the tops of the hands, fading and then lightly brushing the tops of his pants.
This is the first full colorization I have done, I usually shied away from them in the past. I've done tinting only. So for what it's worth here's my first try. Hopefully I will get better at this colorizing thing Great challenge. Thanks everyone.

Oh wow, another beautiful peice of work Wanda! I like the darkening around the edges that you did, it makes the colorization stand out more, which I'm really impressed with - it's some of the most natural looking coloring I've seen. great work!

Phili, thank you You will LOVE your Wacom tablet. Just be patient. To me it wasn't as difficult to control as the mouse when I first started. Thanks

Wanda -- wonderfully done, of course! I'm surprised to read that this is your first colorization - because I always think of your work AND color! I'm not surprized that your painting abilities would work so well on colorizing, but it sounds like you WERE surprised! Your talent and skills inspire me, and I always look forward to seeing your newest works.

CJ, thank you for your encourging words No, I've never done a colorization from ground zero (blk/wht image). I have tinted, but that's a lot different I think. CJ, your talent has always inspired me from the first moment I joined RP. Oh my, has it been a year already. As they say, time flys when you're having fun. Oh, I LOVE your weathered guy, superb!!

Nice job "again" Wanda

Interesting effect that your frame had on his pants. Resembles a shadow through venitian blinds. Great color!
