I guess you have to be old and/or a sci fi fan to understand this, but, since I am both, I couldn’t resist.

After removing the figure from background, I used Flaming Pear lacquer filter to turn him into gold metal, then placed him on a movie poster background, enlarged with the transform tool and stretched and distorted so the saucer held its shape.

Borrowed Gort's shoe and distorted/sized it to fit his feet, colorizing with brush set to color mode and brightness/contrast.

To make his shadow I used transform>distort on a new layer, squishing it to size, then made it black with hue/saturation, applied guassian blur, and lowered the opacity of the shadow layer. Yes, I know the shadow spreads over the “sky” as well as the flying saucer... that’s deliberate, to show the low-tech painted backdrops these old movies used.

Made his laser eye rays with the angled lasso tool adding the red beams in vivid light mode.

I saw the The Day the Earth Stood Still for the first time last week. Great idea! Did you colourize the photo? I know the movie was in B&W.

Roymac, what a coincidence! Better late than never...one of the great classic sci fi movies!

The movie poster I found was already colored...I just added to the top and left side to make room for the new guy.

nice - if they had gold plated or at least bronzed him originally he would last another invasion or two

I see there is more out there like me. An old sci- fi fan. Grew up watching and still do. Love your work!
