I began by digging out a painting as a reference to go by.

I drew it on the screen (a very rough draft).. and then I used the smudge tool to smudge my colors around, blend them and make them work together a little better. I ran the fresco filter on it.. and added a type layer.. I duped the type layer and added a motion blur to it.. and put a layer mask on both.

I love the texture and colour that you have created with the image, and the composition.
IMHO the text is a little bit distracting pulling you to much and not leting you back into the picture afterwards. I find my self wanting to get back to exploring the eye. Have you considered moving the text into the pupil of the eye as a very minor tonal difference ( you can only just read it) ?
Well thought out though I really like this image

Really nice image. I love the texture that the fresco filter created and the colors of the eye are great. The roughness of the image creates a very raw, but powerful look. I agree with Clare that the text does detracts from the image though. Great job.

Charityk -- I love your concept, and the use of the smudge tool. Looks great!

I do believe that Clare's idea to place the text in the pupil is a great addition to your image -- it emphasizes the point you're making, and eliminates any distraction away from the eye. I really like your ability to focus tight on a subject (in concept and in visualization).

charityk,

This really feels like a painting nice job! But, I'm not going to let you slide that easy!...

You are clearly a talented individual, so why not go for something less contrived? I would love to see somthing a little more original!
