Well, I actually sorta kinda had an idea in my head, but as it usually happens, this came about...
Anyhow...
I duplicated background layer, inverted and did a little dodge/burning in certain areas.
Duplicated background again (sorry, steps may be off a bit), did a posterize & threshhold to it.
Blended layer, luminisity with a low opacity.
I added a Hue/Saturation layer (with a layer mask) to give a slight bluish tinge to the forest, (masked out the road).
Added a Levels layer (with a layer mask) to darken up some of the lighter forest areas.
Duplicated background one last time, blended with Dissolve to give a bit of texture overall.
Kind of an infrared/ghostly look.

cool, that definitely reminds me of an infrared image, it's an interesting result thanks for posting the steps!

very cool! i like what you did.I thought about posterizing too but thought,like gradients,it would be kinda off track. I wish the criteria had been more specific
