Lots of.... Burning/Dodging to correct "bamboo background", and I played with it a couple hours to get this low res photo colorized with an earthtone quality faint touch.
Wow, I was inspired by vibrant "ravenmd"'s version-great color and detail.. and "themanda"'s close up view is incredibly real. Thanx!!!!

you've done a good job, here. i especially like the way you alternated the bead color in those that are hanging over her belt with the little shells on them. that's quite an attention to detail!

Thanks for the kind words! This photo was fun, Messing with the different colors' (each on their own layers) transparancies was the tricky part. I originally had these colors brighter, but liked them "dimmer" w/ the transparent layer barely noticable.
I then got a really thick brush (sized @ 300) and went over the background layer(really quickly in strategic strokes) parts of the photo to darken some details in her apparell. I realized I had edited the smaller of the two available downloads .... when I was almost done. (I'm a newbie!)I could have really gotten into more great detail, that's the fun part!!!... but I'm done, I'll look for the next challenge rather than "tweaking" this one....
I love constructive criticism!! I'm open minded, and want to perfect the art of Photoshop retouching! SO HIT ME WITH THE LOW DOWN!!!Practice makes perfect!!!
Great challenge, and fun project, what a pass-time!

Great job with the subtle colors - very natural. You took on one big challenge for a newbie --- and did a wonderful job.
I did notice that you fixed up the back ground --- watch out for Doug's instructions --- he did not want any fixes to the image just color. Can not count how many time I messed up by not following the instructions! lol
Welcome and hope to see more fine work from you!

Not a rule an instruction. It will be part of the text with the original image. For this challange it was:
No alteration, just colorization.

Challenge: Do a respectful colorization of this lovely lady (and nothing else)

But as you can see --- from any challenge here we usually fall off the instructional path -
I have found the people here are wonderful and usually do not get wackey about it. I have totally misread the instructions on challenges! LOL
