I took the clean grayscale image of Dot, and then colorized it. Added mats (colored ovals, with shadow and cutouts). Used a texture on the mats and a slightly different one on the image.

The picture is done nicely. I like the frame around it.

Thank you all for your comments. I enjoyed picking out the colors for her. I was afraid that I was using too much blue.

Whatever happened to "tell us (in detail) how you did it? Very nice job, but I'd like to learn how-to also. That's why I'm here!!! (smile)

Well done and a lovely result...did you do this in PS or PSP? I started on her and gave up, not up to this level of work yet but I remain optimistic....)))

fparker - I put the instructions on the grayscale image I posted first. Guess I should have posted it here as well.

I started by making Dot's image into a grayscale. Then I adjusted the contrast and brightness using curves.

I spent a fair amount of time using the push, smudge and clone tools to clean up the damage. I also downloaded the other images of Dot so as to have a comparison. Using that comparison, I did a bit more repair.

So basically, I "repainted" her image. I worked on keeping the strokes short and light, so they wouldn't distort the image, and had the original on another layer, and alternated between them often to check to make sure I was keeping accurate.

Once I finished the grayscale, I then recolored, using color to target. I use Paint Shop Pro 8.

This is just outstanding Tyeise.
I had a hard enough time doing
it greyscale.
Converting this period photo to
color is very, very hard to do.
Love the way you've blended the
blue background and Dots shirt.
