users gallery
1) applied levels
2) duplicated layer
3) desaturated dup layer and inverted.
4) applied gaussian blur to dup layer.
5)added hue/saturation adjustment layer - tweaked hue and saturation.
6)tweaked levels again.

I could only view a couple of the other submissions so I can't tell how my version compares.

Nice work Bob,

Would I be correct in assuming that you set the blend mode to overlay in step 3? Also, does the base of the statue have a coloration that may be from too much hue/saturation?

Chuck,

Oops! Yes,I did set the blend mode to overlay.

In hindsight, I probably should have reduced the saturation on the statue base. But, not knowing the actual color, I don't think it's too objectionable. I've seen some bases very close to that.
