When I saw this, I couldn't resist trying to put his face on the pumpkin. I tried a couple of things and couldn't get it to look the way I wanted. I played a bit more, and this is what I decided on. But since I played off and on for several days, I don't remember all the steps. Here are some of them.
Copy his face, clean it up, get rid of the coat, add the missing chin and cheek, add open eyes from another little boy in another challenge, blend the eyes in.
Erase all but the face itself. Change to grayscale. Use a simplify filter on the face. Get rid of the white in the face with a filter. Play with blend modes.
On one of the layers and blend modes, lock transparency, paint bright yellow, select all, selection modify contract, delete everything else (gives the yellow in the bottom part). Touched this up a bit by adding a couple of pixels of yellow where I wanted.
I wanted to show the pumpkin carved out, but didn't get quite the look I wanted, so this is the compromise.
