I separated the lily and placed it on its own layer, then darkened the background layer to help it stand out. Then I embossed the lily and colored it drab gold with hue/sat. Then passed over it with a black-to-transparent gradient at low opacity from several directions. Next increased contrast to add shine. Unsharp mask for sharper reflective areas.

That is the basic process I use to make something into metal, but I also tweaked it a bit with other filters and blend modes along the way...just trying some of this and that.

Wow, that looks just great! You've done such a nice job of keeping the 3 dimentional quality of the lily. Of the submissions, yours looks most like the lily still belongs in its background.
I think the only thing I would comment on, and I know I'm guilty of doing the same thing, is that the selection on the foremost petal looks a little messy. I wonder if adding just a touch of blur to the background petals as they fade into the distance, would give it some added realism and depth. Just a though.

This is really wonderful... the best one so far, I think. Very metallic and three dimensional.

Phyllis,
When I saw this latest challenge, I immediately thought about you. I know this would be "peanuts" for you, because I remember you did it once to a group of butterfly.
Then, as it is now - AMAZING.

Absolutely the best. I'm going back to the drawing board to redo the one I was getting ready to submit. Thank you for your expertise and submitting a work of inspiration.
