Flora Moderator Registered: March 2002 Location: Milan, Italy Posts: 2,323 users gallery	The problem I had in trying to sharpen this picture was the amount of colour noise created in the process .... (does it ring a bell?...) .. so, after duplicating the image twice, what I did first was changing one of the duplicates to LAB Color, selected and copied the Lightness Channel, pasted it on my RGB image and deleted the now useless LAB duplicate. * After this: 1) I applied the Smart Sharpening Technique (Tutorial and free Action are to be found here: http://www.pinkheadedbug.com/sharpening/ ) to the grey (pasted) Layer. 2) Duplicated the original colour background and placed it on top of the sharpened grey Layer. 3) Removed the greenish cast using the Curves to set the white point (changing its value to 95% Brightenss) in the lighter part of one of the flowers. 4)Increased the saturation and blurred the color Layer setting its Blending to Color. (This gave me a nicely coloured, sharper image. 5) Used Healing Brush and Clone Tool to remove the spots on the petals. To further sharpen the image without increasing the noise, I used the High Pass Filter and Blur Tool to sharpen and blur selected parts of the image. I used Selective Color to adjust the colour of the flowers and, to make them 'pop' out more, I strongly blurred and lightly desaturated the background. *(I've been asked why I do this...well, fact is: 1) I prefer working on RGB images and I read somewhere that changing back and forth between LAB, CMYK and RGB leads to loss of details therefore I change the second duplicate into whatever Mode suits me best, taking (copying) from it what I need.. 2) I like to keep a duplicate of the original picture as my Background Layer for immediate comparison or correction of the changes I've done, without having to keep an extra window opened in my limited workspace!)

Excellent results! Thanks so much for sharing your technique. Gotta try that lightness channel in LAB mode!

The technique I used, which I got from one of the million tips I read on the internet, works really very well for sharpening colour images without getting colour shift or noise ...
