Lovely Photo!!

PhotoShop 7, Painter Classic

Duplicated the image, Adjusted levels. I began to blend the original bk/grnd using the smudge tool, but decided to open in Painter Classic and use the Just Add Water brush to blend. It does the same thing as the smudge tool, but I think it's easier to use for this.
When the bk/grnd was blended together I opened in PhotoShop - adjusted color balance, and applied selective Color to achieve the color I wanted. Edit-Adjustments, Color Balance, Selective Color. I repaired any defects with the clone tool. I used the smudge tool, and the airbrush on face, blanket, and shirt. I blended out the print on the shirt by using a soft brush and the color picker, picking a color from the shirt close to the printed areas I wanted to blend away. I then used the smudge tool to blend.
Using the eyedropper I picked a color from the girl's lips, blend mode, color, and painted her lips with a very small brush. I used the same color for her cheeks, and a dab on the chin, using the airbrush.
I then added a few more bangs and hair to fall over the shoulder. I used Natural Brushes, #12, #14.
Opened in Painter Classic applied Basic Paper texture, scale, 47%, amount 15%.
Opened in Photo Impact and applied frame. Again thanks for such a lovely photo to work on, and for another opportunity to learn. I hope this doesn't look too light on some monitors. Thanks, everyone

Wanda -- I really like this a lot! It's a more subtle painterly style than usual for you. The tones are realistic and beautiful, the lighting is soft and lovely. (Doesn't look too light on my monitor). It's good to see you again -- especially with such a lovely piece. I remember having problems with this, so I really appreciate someone who does it well. Inspires me to try it again.

CJ, bless you for your glowing comments. It's good to be back, after a short stay in the hospital this is the first challenge I've done. The worst part about being ill is not being able to participate in my favorite passtime, and missing the wonderful folks at RP. Thanks again, CJ, you're a sweetheart Oh, you don't need to try this one again, I love what you did it's wonderful

Welcome back Wanda. I have been sitting here looking at this for several minutes. In fact, I went and got Annie to look at it along with the original, side by side. This is just fabulous. The detail and colors. The colors blend so nicely. This has to be one of the best I have seen. Everytime I see one of your works, I say, I going to try Painter again. I think there is more to it than the program you use.

Ahhhh, to be talented enough to give others such pleasure.
