First I made a layer via copy and set blending mode multiply, left it at %100. Next made a curves adjustment layer. I then did this strictly by the numbers and placed info samplers for white on her dress, in the hallway for black, and on the carpet below her legs for grey. Then went in curves and corrected the red/green/ blue channels so the info readings for the white were 245 across the board, 10 for black. I settled on the reading for the grey on the carpet to be around 120 for R G and B. It ended up with these colors, but now I was bothered by the lack of quartertone detail in her dress... and that carnation. I'm unsure if the scan could have given me more density, or the original photo lacked the detail in there, but her dress is very washed out above her arms. I went and added ANOTHER layer via copy with multipy at this point, then added a mask to hide all, and painted a little density into her dress. Photo still needs cleaned up, emulsion bleeding at the sides.

It was a tough challenge. The old color photos can be so hard to correct because the colors don't just fade evenly. So, I think getting it to look this good was quite a feat.
