First I applied levels in the duplicate layer and I got some contrast and some details , which was enough to begin the work. used healing brush every were to make the texture in uniform.
Then I fixed the boundaries and did some hand painting and created some midtones also. Did extension to the left side of the picture and borrowed the necessary parts from the right side figure. again did some more retouching and final levels...

Vijayan very clean. I can not believe the detail you pulled out from the original. You have made the steps sound easy but the image shows all the hard work and time you put into the restoration. A job very well done.

Wonderful! The tonal quality is perfect. You have brought out all of the detail possible for this image. Just an outstanding restoration!

Beautiful. The left leg of the centre man - I guess you painted it, it looks great. There is a slight indication of painting near the knee of the left man and the centre man.Other than that, I feel this is the best restoration so far.

Very nice work! The details are astounding, especially in the clothing. The bottom part is still very dark, particularly the bottom half of the middle guy's face. It might benefit from a masked levels/curves adjustment layer to even it out? But excellent work overall!

Fantastic restoration. The only thing that bothers me is that they look like they are wearing athletic shoes. Good job.
