Hello. I'd first like to say how glad I am to have found this site and how much it has already helped me. Great suggestions and tips all over the place!
For this photo I started by cloning over the scratches just on the edges of the subject, then used a Difference layer to accentuate the edges and make it easier to mask the hair. Once I had the subject isolated (so I wouldn't have to clean up the background) I basically just cloned the heck out of it (I'm still on Photoshop 6, so no healing tool, unfortunately). I wanted to try to keep as close to the original as possible so I didn't do any smoothing until after the biggest part of the damage was repaired. Then I did a little airbrushing and dodging, added some noise back in, and brushed a bit of shadow behind her.
I know I'm way behind everybody on this, but I thought this was a great photo and wanted to try my hand. Any suggestions or comments will be appreciate!

Looks like you'll be another great asset to this site yourself Suzanne. Nice job. I especially like the hair. Real hard to clean that up without loosing the frizzyness but you did great.
