Microsoft Picture It program: removed dust specks, restore old picture, saved a copy as black and white, saved.

Adobe Photoshop program: opened black and white copy, adjusted contrast, erased torn edges, clone painted in the edges and clone painted out spots, scratches, and flowers, softened wrinkle in lower right corner using blur tool, trimmed edges using crop tool, saved a copy, erased all background except girl and bench, softened edges using blur tool, saved a black and white copy as a picture tube in PSP, painted over girl and bench base colors using smudge and blur tools and adjusting each layers opacity as needed, painted in shadows and light using smudge and blur tools and adjusting each layers opacity as needed, merged layers, softened image using blur tool, saved a copy as Picture tube in PSP for use later, saved.

PSP 7 program: opened Windows Desktop Wallpaper - Autumn, duplicated layer, applied brush strokes effect 3 times, changed layer mode to darken, merged layers, opened new image same size, floodfilled with cream color, applied fine leather effect 3 times, applied blend emboss filter 2 times, cut and pasted as new layer on the autumn image, adjusted layer opacity, merged layers, cut and pasted behind girl, changed perspective on both layers, added new layer, floodfilled with cream color, merged background layers, applied color pencil effect, saved a copy for use in picture number two, applied Mr. Contrast filter to girl layer, applied illumination flood light default color set at 90 to girl layer, applied illumination flood light default color set at 93 twice to background layer, applied illumination flood light set at 88 but changed light color to an orangey color to the background layer, added new layer, added picture tube of suitcase, mirrored suitcase, applied Mr. Contrast filter to suitcase, softened suitcase, merged all layers, applied EyeCandy Glass filter carve setting changed glass color to an orangey color twice, added black border, resized, sharpened and saved.

I'm not familiar with Mary Cassat's work, but I sure like the colors you've used in both your pieces, Reason.
