Firstly I removed a lot of the noise by putting the picture through Neat Image. Then in Photoshop I created a selective colour layer and balanced everything out. After this the picture was very flat so I played around with curves to try to enhance contrast. I cloned out most of the Blue Channel damage.
Finally, I inserted a transparent layer set to Soft Light (58% opacity) and used the airbrush tool (set to color) to enhance skin tones etc.

I agree this looks very nice, particularly the skin tones (always a problem for me); great job! The only minor problem I noticed is that reddish stripe along the bottom. Also I might have tried to darken the background just a bit between the two girls in back, as that bright area seems distracting to me. But overall I think this is a super job.

I found your rendering of the background excellent.
Sure the top half is light and bright.
But I think that works well with this photo.
All the girls have blown out highlights in their hair.
Anything other than a light colored background wouldn’t
blend as well with their hair.
Knew you were a Neat Image user when I saw
the silky sheen look it gives to hair.

Thank you all for your kind words re my efforts here. I really enjoyed working on this pic but your praise makes it all the more enjoyable. I thought I'd got away with the red stripe at the bottom of the picture - well spotted Suzanne!
As for Neat Image - can't recommend this software enough. With a bit of practice and when used in moderation AND in the right circumstances it can pull off miracles.

Delightfully natural looking, despite maybe being a bit over saturated, but then I do love strong contrasts and colours
