This is part Restoration Challenge, part Retouching Challenge, but mostly its a Manipulation Challenge because I doubt very seriously if much of the original will be included in most entries.
Finding a very old photo of a young lady with a pleasant expression on her face was a daunting task. Evidently they nailed them in place or something back then, because most of the images have severe frowns, wrinkled brows, etc.
But I like this image. She is looking directly at the viewer (another anomaly) and has some obvious character in her eyes.
So, here's the Challenge:
Take this portrait from 150 years ago and make it look like it was taken a week ago. Study this woman, imagine what she'd be like today, and how she'd want her portrait done in 2003. The idea is not to simply make a modern-looking portrait from an old picture, but to make a modern portrait of this same woman. I'm guessing she's in her early to mid-20s, so that would make her born around 1980. What would her life be like today if everything was the same for her except the year of her birth?
Challenge: Transport this woman into Summer 2003
Do your best, and post the results here using the following guidelines:
- Make sure you're using the largest version of the Challenge photo
- Enter your name in "Enter a title for the photo"
- Enter the Challenge type and number in "Descriptive Keywords" (ie: "Photo-Art Challenge #501" or "Manipulation Challenge #132"
- Include a complete description of the steps you used under "Photo Description". (You might want to write it elsewhere and paste it here)
- Attach your file as an 800 pixel wide JPG file, compressed so that the overall file is under 200k (this usually means 60% compression).
- Make sure you post to the correct Challenge
- If you expect any comments for your entry, offer your comments to other entries
