1) did an Image/Auto Equalize
2) did an Image/Adjust/Sample-Target Balance and adjusted the dark shadows to black, then chose a light area on one of the petals and moved the color value "to the left" taking it from a greenish tinge to a greyish value
3) duplicated background to a new layer.
4) desaturated new layer and then did an image/adjust/contrast enhancement and adjusted values till there was not much grey in the image - very much a "blown out" highlights image.
4) did a Find Edges on this layer
5) copied layer to the clipboard, created a new layer from the background, created a clipmask (layer mask for you PS people) and pasted the "find edges" data as a selection into the clipmask
6) deslected clipmask and selected image on that layer - used unsharp mask
7) used a Smart Blur on this layer
8) added a tonecurve layer to lighten up somewhat
9) flattened image and did minor touchup to petals with clone tool
10) created new layer applied another smart blur and then adjusted transparency to 50%

Hmm - not too happy with this result, but was trying some new techniques. I think it's a bit too light now. If I can redo it better, I'll be uploading a second version
