I really wanted to restore the beauty of this woman, and stay true to the original.
I started off by opening up the tonal range with a levels layer. From there I proceeded with the laborous process of cloning out cracks in the face. For a number of areas of the face, I borrowed a good skin sample, copied it, and re-used it in a damaged area (adjusting it's brightness and contrast and using a feathering of 6-10).
I isolated the eyes, neck, chest, neckless and signature in separate layers and worked on them individually. In this way I could make specific adjustments to these layers without effecting the rest of the photo.
I also added some noise and texture to the skin areas for realism such as the neck and chest.
In order to smooth the face, yet preserve detail and realism, I used a small gaussian blur (.8), and with a layer mask painted in smoothness only in those areas that needed it.

Thank you for the kind words. I really enjoyed pulling Lori out from all those cracks and trying to bring out her beauty.

Absolutely exellent job, a masterclass in retouching. If I have to be really minutely nit picking, I would say there is a loss of texture above her R eyebrow, and also in the shadow area to the L of her mouth, but this is just to cover up my jealousy of a really good touch up. Keep up the good work.
