I enjoyed working on this photo, but there was lots and lots of work.

I found the walls and doorways hard-going.
I cloned, cloned and cloned again.
Then I used the patch tool to cover any blurred areas and retain vital grain. Did the same with the road.

I decided to try to restore the man on the left.
If I failed and botched the job I would have cropped him out.
I was happy with him and feel his presence adds something to the photo.

I knew the tires would be tough, so I left them till last.
It took a lot of delicate cloning and smearing.

Matt
You've made a terrific job on this photo.
The car looks very clean.
Nice to see the second man included.
Did you know there's a third man as well; but not worth the bother and hard work.
Just one thing, Doug put "MG No 1" in the description. It's not! Don't know what car it is.
Well done Matt, brilliant job.

Steve

Matt:

A truly impressive job! First of all the man sitting in the car looks tremendous, and the body and clothes (and shadow) you added to the man standing is very well done.

You've taken a very old car and made it look new and realistic, and your treatment of the ground and building (and roof) round out an extremely well done restoration.

Excellent job Matt, I'll have to start again. Just one thing the drain pipe on the right you appear to have made part of the wall. Not easy to see exactly what it is in the original.

I just could not begin to do anything with the man on the left! How did you do that?

Ian.

Thanks Shalford, Alan, Christine, Doug and Ian,
I always enjoy hearing from other members.

Christine, you are right I didn’t look hard enough at the drainpipe.

Ian, I made the suit by drawing the outlines, filling with a lighter black adding grain, and a lot of levels and burning to darken and add creases.

I have a bad habit of not referring to the original enough during restorations.
I never saw the third man at all. And a closer look at the original shows the man standing at the door had a different posture to that which I have given.

Beautifully done, Matt-especially recovering the man standing by the building.

Great overall contrast and very clean. I like the subtle texture in the building.

Thanks TwinbNJ, Phillip and Cuda,

Cuda, I'm sure I spent twice the time smoothing the walls and road as I did on the car.

In future restorations of badly damaged surfaces such as walls and roads I'm going to use the method Shalford described in detail in the tutorial section.

I think you have golden eyes (not LG digital).
And I'm working on this photo too.

This is a very well done retouch job, or should I say remake job? This photo looks almost new. I'm very impressed and hope that my skill will soon equal yours.

Thanks Janet and Actual,
This one came out better than expected.
I've put in some shockers in past challenges.
