I'm very new to this forum. I have visited this site many times but didn't know (or forgot) about this area of the site. This was a fun style to work with a photo. My photoart is usually high key image work – so this was very different for me. Hope you like it.
Many layers to this file
• duped the photo, converted to b/w using H/S.
– inverted that layer, gaus.blur enough to get an outline of the player
– tweaked layer with brightness/contrast to make dark
– set to OVERLAY at 100% over the original image.
– used a pattern overlay of CLOUDS on player image to mottle the color.
• created new layer and merged visible layers
– used PASTELS in FILTERS/ARTISTIC/PASTELS
• new layer for the background
– blotched up bkgrd with different colors using different brushes for different size and texture.
– USM on this layer to bring out a brush look to the colored bkgrd.
– used PASTELS in FILTERS/ARTISTIC/PASTELS
– added more color to the basketball

I really like the "people" you daubed into the background. It really gives that feeling of being a professional game rather than the "outdoor-shoot-a-hoop-with-buddies" feel of the original photo. Great way to improve the picture!

:o) Woo Pig Sooie! Heh...you'll probably be the only one to understand that!! Nice work...I, too, love the "people" in the bg. Nice techniques! -Brooke
