Doug Colwell Senior Member Registered: October 2003 Location: Alberta Posts: 157 users gallery	For the background I decided that since uncle was mostly de-saturated I would put him in my yard which is also mostly de-saturated, (there’s a cow moose standing about 10 ft. behind uncle). After selecting and saving uncle and his face, I selected the old bg and pasted in the new one, (the scale was close enough to allow uncle to block out the moose). Cleaned up scratches and spots with clone, burn and dodge. Selected face and smoothed out the skin with d&s filter and mask (as described in Vikki Hansen’s tutorial The Awesome Power of Layer Masks), adjusted levels, did a local contrast enhance with unsharp mask (20%, 50, 0). Blurred the paste edges on the highlight side and burned the edges on the shadow side. Applied a slight guassian blur to the background so uncle wouldn’t be alone in his fuzziness. Added a bit of color to face and tie.

Very nice colorization! Very natural.... good choice on BG.

Your restoration is, to my eye, one of the best. I love photoshop, but do not know anyone else to share my work with, and therefor, have never had a professional opinion. I will start posting my work on this site, and hope for the best....Good job.
