I was trying this make this look like a particular type of embroidery my mother used to do.
I searched the web for Photoshop/tutorial/embroidery and saw the idea of using lines to represent threads.
Cut out a single petal. Used eye dropper to select colors from the petal to draw the threads.
Used 10pix paint brush to paint individual threads...didn't take that long since I only did one petal.
I also used the click/shift click technique to make the lines straight and speed up the drawing somewhat.
Cut & pasted the petal 3 times, then rotated petals to create one entire flower.
Added bevel and drop shadow to threads. Cut & pasted the flower several times. Rotated and resized the flower to create some variety.
Applied various HSB corrections to individual flowers to create some variety,
while still trying to stay with a realistic number of thread colors...not sure if I succeeded at that
Cropped the flowers to get a single square section of flowers, suitable for framing.
After flattening the image I realized there were a couple of colors which were sticking out too much
in a few places and disturbed the mellow look that I was going for. I used the red eye removal tool to change the colors I didn't like to ones I liked better.
Added the frame because my mother used to frame her embroidery and give them as presents.

I would like to thank everyone for their nice comments and encouragement. This was my first challenge and I've only been using Photoshop Elements for about a month, so I still have a lot to learn. For this particular project I was inspired by my mother who passed away several years ago. Thanks Mom!

I'm glad this isn't the Critiques section where we're not allowed to just say "Wow! Outstanding!", because all I can think of to say is:

Wow! Outstanding!

Well worth the effort you have put into the image. Nice that you have worked your project up from basics and not simply run a bunch of filters.
