Challenge: How to create a DOF (Depth Of Field, Depth Of Focus) effect that looks real.
PS: I have a theory why Gauss doesn't look real. Our eyes are optical
instruments. When things are out of focus (which they increasingly
are at my age...), our perception of them are identical to the OOF
effect that cameras create, and that's why camera (optical) OOF looks
real, but Gauss does not."
For the non-photographers among us, as camera aperture size decreases the apparent focus depth increases. With a tiny (ie: f/22) aperture you can have foreground, midground, background, all in sharp focus. But with a large aperture (ie: f/2.8) you have to choose what distance will be in focus. Everything in front of and beyond that distance will be out of focus. Additionally, the further away from the in-focus distance, the more out of focus the image becomes.
Challenge: Make this f/22 picture look like f/2.8 picture, and give a detailed description of how you did it
Do your best, and post the results here using the following guidelines:
- Make sure you're using the largest version of the Challenge photo
- Enter your name in "Enter a title for the photo"
- Enter the Challenge type and number in "Descriptive Keywords" (ie: "Photo-Art Challenge #501" or "Manipulation Challenge #132"
- Include a complete description of the steps you used under "Photo Description". (You might want to write it elsewhere and paste it here)
- Attach your file as an 800 pixel wide JPG file, compressed so that the overall file is under 200k (this usually means 60% compression).
- Make sure you post to the correct Challenge
- If you expect any comments for your entry, offer your comments to other entries
