I lost track of what I did, but this is an approximation.
First created a new working image then added some adjustment layers to increase the density and contrast. I used masks in the adjustment layers to even out the effects.
Merged the visible layers and then cut and copied the men into a new Layer Set. Added dodge and darken layers to the layer set and dodge dodge dodge, darken darken darken. Blurred the background, merged, cropped and saved.

Good job of bringing out the details. You might want to soften your edges a bit for even better blending into the background. I'm amazed at how much detail you managed to get out of this one.

Thank you for your feedback. They do look a bit like they were cut out with a cookie cutter. By the way, does anybody else see glasses on the guy in the center?

Really nice job on the details...you even got the cigarette hanging out of the guy on the left's mouth, which I totally missed. As DJ said, the transition between the guys and the background is too noticable, and I think the layer with the guys on it extends beyond the actual image of them? I don't think the guy in the middle has glasses, but then I didn't see the cigarette either! Cheers!

Thank you FrannyMae. It has been awhile since I looked at this image. It looks like I was in too much of a hurry when I cut the guys out. You’re right. I did leave some of the background around the edges. It makes the transition look too abrupt.
I still see the suggestion of glasses on the center guy. It looks like the old stile of rimless glasses. The light spot on the bridge of his nose suggests the metal bridge that connects the two lenses. And on the right side of his face there is another “reflection” from where the temple joins the lens. Then again …
