Used Flora's tutorial "Enhancing details in unevenly faded pictures"(channel mask) with 2 or 3 multiply layers and plenty of mask painting. Cleaned up with clone. Copied and fiddled with left hand to add a right hand and arm. Smoothed skin with guassian blur and layer mask (Vikki's Awesome power of layer masks tutorial).

Nice job Doug.(y) I like what you did with his right hand. I’m going to have to take a look at the tutorials you mention.

Doug:

Very nice job of taking practically nothing and recovering so much detail. I like how you did the right arm/hand as well as the overall toning, and the picture frame.

Thank you very much Morley, Alan and Jill. Alan, I've been itching to add a hand in a pic since I saw your Dog Days.

That hand is marvelous! I just couldn't do it. I should have just made a big cartoon hand and gave up

This result is very impressive. The details are well toned and have a nice texture (not too smooshed.) The background has retained much of its charm and aged look. The subtle changes to the left hand are wonderful and add to the realism. You obviously have a knack for knowing when "enough is enough!" Bravo!
