1 Started with a copy of the background and added a levels layer and used auto correct.
2 added a curves layer set to multiply, to increase the density of the image
3 Merged the visible layers
4 Created new layers one with the cadet one with the frame and one with the background
5 Made adjustments to color balance of the frame and the cadet
6 Added a color layer and used it to paint in face and eye and hat color.
7 Did some healing and cloning to clean things up a bit
8 Made a copy of the cadet layer and applied some blur to it
9 Added a black layer mask to the blur layer and used it to selectively add blur to reduce the grain
10 Merged visible layers into a new layer
11 Did some dodging, burning and did some touchup with the blur tool
12 Reduced image size and ran unsharp mask.
Fine work Morley,
Like the old color look on the cadet.
And I really like your work on the old frame.

Thank you Matt. I worked hard to keep the old photo look when doing this one. I don't remember making a conscious decision about the color of the frame. Most of the work was done with the clone tool followed by the healing brush. When working close to an edge I used the lasso tool to control the effect.
