photoshop - cleaned, cropped and changed photo to black and white, adjusted contrast. added lots of paint in different layers using different types of brushes.
Psp7 - added a cross necklace to the girl and used superbladepro to change it to gold. added drop shadows to wall layers, added sandstone texture filter to walls and sand. merged layers and erased around picture to make a circle. added picture tubes of guitar, cross, and crying woman. added womans face on the right and text. added background color and added picture tube of girl on left, changed her layer to overlay and cross layer to burn. merged layers. adjusted contrast. used a goache filter. added black border. added black corners with a brush. merged layers.

I like this. It looks like something one would see on a stylized card in a trendy gift shop. Not old Mexico as such but certainly the flavor is there in an abstract sense.

Interesting take on this.
From a design point of view, it all seems a bit bottom right heavy. All the elements (all the women, the cross, the guitar) are all just slightly touching eachother. It may flow better if things were a little less cramped. I'm not sure how much the two lightly sketched faces are accomplishing here... The one to the left of the seated woman looks very anglo/saxon to me (looks like blonde hair). Come to think of it, If you loose the sketched women, that may solve 90% of the issues here.
I should say that I am rather intrigued by the core of this image. In my mind I see a prostitue seated in the door, of a missonary. Perhaps she is imagining her former self standing in that same door? Very interesting!
