I enjoyed this one, too... It's good to work on an image without a lot of cloning or wholesale replacement of body parts!
I started by straightening and cropping, picked the green channel to work from, cloned out the ink X, and adjusted levels. Then processed the image in Neat Image to minimize the grain and bad jpeg artifacts, and used that as an overlay. Pasted over my corrected/cloned b&w but grainy version. Since Neat Image sometimes obliterates image detail, I painted a 50% layer mask over the Neat Image version and restored the detail around eyes, mouth, noses. Blurred the background, and burned in places to bring the tones into balance especially on the gents in the back row.

I really like the smooth texture and even tones you got on this. Nice clean-up work too. A little more off the top (crop wise) might help the boys in the back stand-out.
