transformed the skull using skew to warp him in a vertically stretched manner, and squashed his face a lil, copy/pasted a duplicate and flipped it over to overlay them as a whole skull, made a soft light layer colored it red (over the skull), used burn and dodge to eliminate some of the lines where images overlapped, added a background of duplicates of the skull, colored over again with softlight, used omni lighting on background and skull to darken certain areas and brighten the lighter ones.
