I had a picture I took of a bunny at a farm many years ago and I thought it would be cute to make him someone's pet. I started with a solid green background to keep it simple and show up the detail of the skin and fur.

Next I cut out the hand and put it on a second layer. First I cloned in skin where the dirt was then played around with contrast and saturation to get better color and shading to bring out the texture of the skin better. I also removed the light that was coming from below/behind because I wanted all the light to appear to come from the top.

Then I outlined the bunny (roughly, leaving some extra border) and put him on a new layer above the hand. To make him sit in the hand, I selected the hand and removed the part of the selection that overlapped the front feet. Then I went to the bunny layer and hit "delete" removing just the back feet so that he now sat in the hand.

Then I cleaned the dirt off him, adjusted contrast and brightness, and added some highlights on the ears, back and tail so that the light direction better matched that on the hand. With the burn tool, I added some shadows on the hand under his feet and head since he would be blocking that light if he were really sitting there.

Finally, to do the edges of the bunny, I feathered the edges of the cut out with the eraser tool using an assortment of weird brushes (that I've been dying to play with since I got the new PS7!) in order to create a "furry" look. I erased the rough outline all around the bunny this way, trying to make his fur look realistic. And there he is.

Sigh. Now I want a bunny.

Awwww....who doesn't love a bunny? I wonder if he knows the lizard?

Compositing is excellent. Masking seems very clean. Bunny is a bit less sharp than hand (almost said 'fuzzier')

Green bg is attractive color, but not certain it 'goes'. Looks like a greenscreen awaiting superimpostion.

Yes, I noticed that too (only after taking a break from it and seeing it here). I realized that I should have sharpened the eye, and have done so on my personal copy.

The reason I chose that green was by default. I started with black, but it gave a feeling of too much contrast between white bunny and dark hand, so I went to colors. All colors except this green seemed to fool the eyes into thinking the fleshtones of the hand were off color. Since there are so few colors in the picture, that is an unavoidable problem with a solid color, but I didn't want to go to a "picture" background on this one.

Thanks for your very astute observations. I am here to get suggestions, and I really appreciate the fact that you don't hesitate to point out flaws where you see them.

I think you did a great job matching lighting in both images. They look like they were photographed that way.
