Working in PS6, made three copies of background layer. Applied Paint Engine "Dry Brush" filter to first copy layer. Layer was set to normal blend mode, opacity of 3%. PS "Fresco" filter was used on second copy layer. That layer was set to normal blend mode, opacity of 77%. On the third copy, I used the PS "Accented Edges" filter and set that layer to color burn mode, opacity of 37%.

Added a level adjustment layer. Levels are Red: 44/1.15/255; Green 0/1.00/191; Blue 0/.94/190 and RGB 0/1.46/237.

Resized image, flattened layers and saved as new PSD file.

Working on second file, used freehand lasso to select the fruit and copied that to a new layer. Applied an extreme Hue/Saturation/Lightness adjustment to background layer to lighten it and to create a blue/green tone. Worked on the background layer with the smudge tool using the PS "faux finish" brushes of rolled cotton to create the table and back wall strokes and textures.

Most of the coloring and outlining on the entire image was done freehand with the paint brush, smudge, dodge and burn tools in varying styles, sizes, opacities and blend modes.

Once the image was complete, I applied a very low setting of the Paint Engine "Impression Oil" filter soften and spread out the details.

Then I decided that the painting needed more items :> !!!! So, I freehand painted the grapes. Added a layer under the cut out fruit layer and used a feathered elliptical selection to create the outline of the plate, -- contracting and expanding the selection -- and filling it with different colors using the paint bucket and paintbrush tools. I used low opacity fills to pick up some of the texture of the background.

Then I decided that the plate needed more detail -- LOL !!!! I copied the fruit from the image, resized and erased the objects to fit the plate, and changed with Hue/Saturation adjustments. I stole (cloned) a couple of chrysanthemums from a Cezanne painting and erased and smudged them to blend. I also used the Paint Engine "Impression Oil" filter on the additional items.

Flattened layers and saved as third PS file. Applied a level adjustment to brighten the image. Added canvas texture filter. Saved filed. Opened it in Painter Classic. Applied the soften filter and surface texture filter of image luminance. Saved file.

Opened file in PS and saved for web as a .jpeg, compression of 43.

Wow! Very Cézanne.

Love the echo of the image in the plate.

Excellent description.

Nice, nice work Lorraine!!

I started looking at the Cezanne info and then got side tracked from this one by *real world.* Wanna come back and play with it soon.

Looks like I've got my work cut out for me now as you have really upped the bar! LOL

Big applause...

Very nice! I'm not a big fan of trying to make MY work look like someone else's, but I think you did an admirable job. Even if it weren't a style you were trying to emulate I think it is excellent artistry. Your choice of grapes in the gap was a great one - I just closed the gap on mine, and now see where there was room for more creativity. Good job!

WOW!
Cezanne would have a fit. Imagine he, working all his life to attain a certain look. You working on it in just a few days.
Hats off to you

Hi everyone!!!!

I didn't expect so many comments, but I sure do appreciate all of them

Wanda, I used some of the same filters and techniques, I discovered from doing the Cassatt image. So this one went fairly quickly.
Also, the smilies are done by typing the old standard keystrokes for smilies. You asked that in another thread.

Blacknight, thanks for your comments on my style.

I'm off to look at all the other submissions now.

Thanks again,

Lorraine

Lorraine, you are exceptionally good at "photo art" as well as retouching. Looking at all your entries in the various categories here, all I can say is I can't wait to see more!

On this one, as usual, you have gone an extra mile and a half! But it's your almost fanatical attention to details that others (like me) would miss that makes your work so good. Thank you for sharing your techniques in such detail...very helpful.

Again, I thank you so much, Phyllis

But, my fanatical attention to detail drives my husband crazy LOL!!!

I'm like that in everything I do. In real life, I try to see everything about me, even if it's just a TV commercial. I'm always observing and looking for/at details.

I still have a very long way to go in digital art, as I'm still learning, and I'm learning from you and everyone else here on RetouchPRO.

Thanks again,

Lorraine
