Repair the photo and remove the color cast.
Move the wedding cake between the couple
and remove some of the clutter from the table.

I used multiply on the blown out area of the table.
This helped but it still needed a good hit with levels.

I didn’t like the idea of vast empty spaces on the table.
I re-arranged just about everything on the table.
I tried hard to position the chairs, paintings, candles and crockery
around the couple in a neat orderly fashion.
Hopefully this would make the couple and cake in the center
the focal point of this nice wedding photo.

The wedding cake was badly blown out.
I hit it with multiply and levels.
Cutting and moving helped give sharper outer edges.
The cake came out much better than I dared hope for.

Boy, there was a lot of work in this one.
There were just so many little things to tweak.
I’m sure I missed something but I’m dizzy and tired.
So I’m calling it quits.

Good Luck to all who try this retouch.

Matt nice job. The table is much nicer looking, less messy and more symmetrical than the original. One wonders whether the submitter just wanted the cake moved or a "table re-arrangement." Very nice color.

Phil - Got to admit I went overboard and re-set the whole table.
I had no plans to do this when I began this re-touch.
After I centered the cake I moved one plate.
One thing led to another and I ended up re-arranging everything.

Nice job. I think retaining the retro 1950 look (The era in which the pic was taken) was a very good idea. Works well.

Patience of a saint and the touch of a master. Living proof that there IS talent in Australia if you look hard enough.

Chazzy and Swampy - I really enjoyed working on this one.

Peth - Thanks for the comments.
Hey Peth, whats that New Zealand crack about
talent being hard to find here in Australia.
We have lots of talent here.
There is ....... ........ Naaah! He's a Sportsperson.
There is ...... ......... Naaah! He's a Sportsperson too.
Well there is .... ........... Naaah She is in sport too.
Err! I'll need more more time to think of a talented Aussie
who isn't a sportsperson.

Thanks for the comment _Vence,
That's a good idea lighting the candles.
It would have been a nice touch.

Fantastic job!!!!!! Far better than the repair that I did for the couple(My mother and Father -inlaw) Their 50th anniversary is coming up in January 2007 so I think I will have to give this another go as there are very few pictures of their wedding left, This is about the best of them. once again fantastic job!

Great restoration/retouch - especially the cake and chairs. really sharp looking given the original.Looks like a hand coloured b&w image. Great work!

Thanks for the comments Thomas,
This photo brings back memories. It's 2 years old now.
It is no "Amber" or "Jenna" in the popularity stakes.
But I think it's a very good photo to practice restoration and coloring.
