Another go which turned out to be fun but time consuming.

PSP8.01

I used the image I'd already cut out and placed into a new image white bg. I gave this one some extra Buzz Simplifier.
Adjusted Hue/Sat/Midtones.
Adjusted brightness.

Clone Tool - to open his eyes more.

Burn tool - various opacities and settings to outline everything and emphasise wrinkles. Decided I wanted more outlining, so PaintBrush/Default lowered opacity and outlined and emphasised again.

Warped his ears, nose and mouth.

Flattened image.

Dec. Col. Depth to 256 colours
Standard Web-Safe/Error Diffusion/all else unticked.

Inc. colour depth to 16 mill
Add noise Mono 20

Filter AIM/USM

I found another reason for needing a graphics tablet, those outlines are a little on the shaky side.

I've tinged this image slightly blue because that's how those original hedcuts appeared to me??

Thanks Corel....after the frustration in the beginning I was keen to persevere with it. Haven't tackled anything like this prior, would like to tackle more in future.

Lovely job. That's something I didn't think about doing with mine--outlines. Nice results!

Thank you Cvandever and Actual .... I'd been sitting with the Hedcut of Oprah on my desktop whilst I worked on this. It wasn't until I'd reached the point of being happier with the "dots" that I finally realised how emphasised her jawline was and it was then I went back to add lines. For those who are more artistically inclined than moi, it would be great to see more results for this challenge. I tend to be too cautious in my approach, this challenge needs a bolder approach. Just a tip before trying anything like this again... before adding 'dots' whatever method you choose....your image needs to be quite bright and with an even contrast to the face, if you get those right in the first place, the rest should be much easier.

In this case too, even after I'd added 'dots' his right ear was almost non-existent due to brightening, so I had to take a couple of steps backward (prior to adding dots), and take a selection of his right ear/mirrored and deformed to fit his left ear. Did this on separate layer/Soft Light I think? The rest of it I just drew outlines and used either Lighten/Darken or Dodge/Burn tools for shadowing.

I'd like to try this again on someone without a hat.

Nice job, Neve. The added detail makes a big difference in terms of readability.
