As this is my first attempt at a restore, I wasn't really sure how far to go.
First copy background layer
( I noticed that by taking the left of the face and flipping it 180, the two sides didn't mach in size. This told me that the tare had distorted the look of the face and the hat)
So I used the left side of the face to make up a good right side.
Next I copied a small section of the hat and moved it to match the head.
Then it was a lot of patch and cloning. Finally I wanted to get some definition on the badge and buttons so I searched for a badge on the net (Stockport Constabulary was the closest match) and stuch it on. Obviously with a lower opacity (25%) for effect.

Very nice for a first attempt-even a second or third! Very nice job of enhancing the detail on the badge-something I wish I had done but I overlooked.

I like the detail of the badge you added! The overall tone is very good, too! Nice job.

Thanks folks, this is why I like this site. Each person focusses on something different, so what I see as important (i.e. the badge) others will overlook............and vice versa. However, on closer inspection, I have noticed that his left neck line could do with some more touch-up work, it's not quite blended properly. Hmmmm, now I am unhappy. Duh...I might have to do another one.
