To minimize the moire problem I decided to use the patch tool. Locating a small moire free area I would enlarge it by repairing it with the patch tool until I was able to repair larger areas with each move. This worked well for the area beneath the car and at the top of the picture but didn't work well for the man's suit. I used the Healing Brush and the Cloning tool to clean up those areas. I then created a new layer with the blending mode set to Color and over painted areas of the photograph with tones selected from the image. This seemed to smooth out the noise somewhat. I cleaned up the dust and scratches with the Healing Brush. I then used Neat Image to remove as much noise as I could. Finally, I used the Burn tool to deepen the eyes a bit and the Dodge tool to lighten the steering wheel which had gotten lost when I over painted it earlier.

Hey Jim, this is looking great. You really faded those lines very well.

Hi Jim, I was struck right away by how much some parts of your photo reminded me of a watercolour painting. It would be interesting to see the car and his jacket given the same treatment. Great job with the moire also.

Very good cleanup job. Still a few verticals, and his pants leg seems to be having difficulty staying visible towards the bottom, but tonality is good. Some horizontal banding. Contrast is excellent. Perhaps some detail could be brought out in the two dark patches, one over each shoulder?

Excellent tonal range. Could be the best yet! Other than what's already been mentioned, the right side of his face doesn't seem to match the left side very well. But it's probably a lot harder than it looks. I haven't tried this one yet. Nice job.

Hello Jim
You've a great job getting rid of the moire effect, and the other marks, from your description, were you using photoshop 7. Makes me want more and more to get a copy.
