First I must mention www.DesktopCollector.com. (that's where Lara's head came from)
Well, make copy layer (in case of muck-ups)
cut out wall section and make new layer via copy.
cut horizontal section of a row of bricks and distort that layer to create a perspective of the bricks. (perspective doesn't work in this case)
cut a vertical layer of bricks and match the distortion of the horizontal layer.
Then cut and copy layers to slot into the brick cutouts to give the solid brick effect.
link all the cutouts together and darken to give the shadow effect.
I joined a Lara headshot and my old sunset for the background, gave it a little bit of sandstone texture. Dropped the saturation by 15%, darkened it a touch.
Finally reduced the opacity of the original cutout piece to give the painted-on effect (I hope)

Absolutely stupendous work. Sounds as if you enjoyed it too. That's what it is all about, enjoying the work. Your description is excellent and would b easy for someone to follow the steps if they so chose. Kudos.
