This is a challenge I did several times. I'm STILL not 100% satisfied.
Isolated lily and stem. Duped that layer and hid the original.
Desaturated layer.
Used hue/sat colorizer. I never did get a decent mix of what I wanted and always seemed to get too much red for my tastes. So...
I linked the hue/sat and lily layer and merged. I did this several times until I got a better representation of what I was searching for.
I used the dodge/burn tool to highlight/darken areas on the lily.
Copied that layer when I was pretty sure it couldn't go any further without destroying it and hid it. Copied layer again.
Used the emboss filter at 5 pixels and overlayed it onto the layer below. Merged those two layers and copied the result then used the emboss filter yet again
Used dodge and burn to bring out more highlights and darken the lines in the petals.
Adjusted hue/sat.
Copied layer. Selected background. Darkened background and used a lens blur filter.
It is good, but the edges don't look quite right to me. A bit blue-ish, and I think the embossing should be inverted maybe. I know what it's like, I go off in one direction, then just keep going in the hope that something might work. Sometimes it's best to just start again on a completely new tack. Superb description.
