Tim's determination made me jealous :-) and I decided to do something.I was trying to keep color balance and old looks of the picture .Still not sure about result. What do you guys think?
I used CMYK and then switched to RGB,to achieve better color balance added Blue Photo Filter.

This looks great! Very subdued and natural. The only part that might be a bit bright is the tree...it grabbed my attention first thing! I think it is a bit brighter than the rest? But all in all a superb effort!

Excellent work Steve,
It's good to see all the varied approaches to this restoration.
Great work on the horses. They were a grainy mess in the original.
Nice subdued colors on the family and house.
But on my monitor the tree looks too saturated compared to the
subdued colors in the rest of the photo.
Would love to see some autumn colors in the tree
instead of the strong green and the saturation reduced.
This way the tree wouldn't compete with the family and horses
as the focal point of the photo.

Great colour choices Steve, and the family members look terrific. You've even added some colour reflections on the windows - nice touch. Maybe right horse's head and neck could use a level adjust? Sky and tree look natural, and excellent clean-up too.
Oh boy - controversy. Didn't realize I was contradicting FrannyMae and Matt until after I posted. I agree that the tree looks bright in comparison to the rest of the pic but still think that a colour photograph of a solitary tree beside an unpainted house and fence would look very much like Steve's tree.

I agree with all the other comments Steve.
Subtle colours are the way to go.
I like the light shading on the house. (nice touch)
Roof, chimney, Family, axe and horses all stand out.
(A small observation) - One part of the roof tiles on the left, needs blending in with the rest. Looks a bit lighter on my monitor.
Well done Steve

Lets leave the tree out of this one, it's all been said by others. Do you know what I really like about this? The way you have made it look like an old style repainted photo. As Doug says, well done the windows, I missed that one. Lets not take anything away from the restoration work either, it's brilliant. I agree there are a couple of bits that need fine tuning, but nothing major.
Very well done mate.

Steve- excellent job. The color don't overtake the picture.
