This is my 2nd submission/challenge. I realize my first one, which thankfully i have scrapped, was terribly out of sync. Leroy Neiman is awesome. This time i took the trouble to study some of his paintings, and unlike my earlier fiasco, i did try to achieve a certain similarity. I'm hoping viewers will agree. In any case, i shall keep on trying until i succeed, so you people are going to see a lot of my efforts until i am satisfied! (did i hear groaning??!) I think Leroy Neiman is an outstanding artist of our time and i'm glad i got to know of his work thro this site. Three Cheers for Retouchpro dot com!!

You do did a great job with this challenge. I did not see your first attempt – but this one does have that Neiman look to it. There are just a few images here that do have the style of Neiman – which was the challenge. Now you just need to put some steps of how you created your art so others might try their hand at this style too. When I worked on this challenge in Dec. '03, I studied some of his art work too at his website – he even has his paintings divided into catagories of sports: basketball, baseball, football.... I like Neimans' style too. Again great job.

Thanks, Waynette. I took a look at your gallery at pbase. I dont do photography although i used to with a nikon fe (still own it, almost an antique by now!). You have an outstanding collection of work.
I have used corel photopt in conjuction with ps7 for my challenge here. Corel has a no. of sample fills and textures which can give very interesting results if used in blended layers with the original. You must experiment to find out what suits you. It is best to simplify the image first, reduce the no. of colors. Add blank layers and fill them up with diff fills. Always keep a sketch layer handy since outlining is important. Also it would do well to use masks. I made a mask for the player, the basket and the ball, kept them separate. This way, If you lose any part of the image, you can always add it later. In ps7, i have installed virtual painter and find the gouache filter very useful. Also paint engine adds interesting strokes. Finally i remember i blended in the original image so as not to lose the main picture. Hope this will help.
Thanks once again for the appreciation.

I was going to try this one until I saw your submission. This one goes unchallenged in my book; I'm just a simulator anyway. Really like the oil relief effect that you achieved with this one.
