My first challenge attempt.
Started by looking at some of the other solutions for ideas / staring points. I'm using Photoshop Elements w/ Hidden Power. I learned a lot from the Hidden Power book.
Replaced blue channel with ~25% blue, 15% red, 60% green. Resulting colors looked fair at this point.
Split into R, G, B layers. Used masked curves to darken the reds to get some color back into the foliage. Did similar to the green & blue to remove the greenish tint to the highlight in the girls hair. Used level as top layer to increase dynamic range a bit, then flattened the layers.
Hid the bright patch near the girl's right arm that I found distracting. Patch opacity about 65% to help it blend naturally. Tweaked the red channel with levels to improve the colors, focusing on the skin tones. Flattened.
Used a masked curves layer to increase contrast in the foliage. Same mask with Hue/Saturation to shift foliage cyan colors towards green. Darkened these colors some as well. Copy & pasted the eyes into a new layer set to screen & low opacity to lighten the girl's eyes. Used a masked hue/sat. layer to make the shirt colors more orange. Added a masked color balance layer to reduce the color cast on the building in the background. Flattened.
Increased canvas size. Added a new right arm, struggling to get the tone & colors matched. Copied existing background material to fill rest of the blank canvas. Added the missing bit of shirt sleeve. Added some pom poms. Originally, these were blue & orange. Muted the orange and blurred a bit. Flattened again. The pom poms have poor tonal range, and the shapes are very ragged & don't blend in very well. Something isn't quite right with the new arm either. I'm sure many other flaws cropped up here as well. Well out of my league doing these kind of alterations, but I think it helps the composition a lot.
Applied clone tool to fix numerous dust marks. Levels again to get the full dynamic range in each channel. Blurred the skin on the girls face to make it softer and less blotchy. Sharped and lighted her eyes & her mouth. Lighted the whites of these parts too.
