Great - that's what I like to see, how much was the cleaning bill?
The colorization has brought out all the detail.
Legs and arms, face and dress, what a difference your paintpot makes.

Great work Alan,
Very good work on the damaged arms and legs.
The sky in the original was an awful mess.
Your repair and color make it look like a beautiful backdrop.
I think the important facial area was well done.
The eyes, eyebrows, and mouth look great. I like the fine grain.
I really like the blush on the cheeks. It’s a nice touch.
I was surprised when your fist submission looked a little underdone.
But I’ve seen your work for two years now; I knew there was more to come.
Had the feeling you were going to pop the first one back in the oven.
Cook it some more then add the icing (color). Excellent work.
Great to see the old crew back on this one,

Alan, really nicely done! The skin tones are just beautiful, and the background looks perfect. One of these days I'll finish a colorized version. Now whether I post it is another thing!

Nicely cleaned up.
I like the sky you used.
This was a challenging restore but I see a lot of people seemed to enjoy doing it....
and getting it better each time.

Thank you very much. For the background, I just lightened up the sky and clouds, and used a gaussian blur to get a softer sky/cloud background.

Incredible job on the face, my face. The colorization is beautiful. The only thing that bothers me is the white thing on my shoulder. I have been working on this one a little at a time and hopefully will submit someday. Overwhemled at work and moving on top of it.

Yes, the white thing should be the same pattern. The outfit is actually a shorts and top. It has been fun to see all the different versions.

Excuse me if this is not strictly on target, but I am very new to actually trying to learn this art properly (my hard drive is littered with the corpses of photos that I have ruined in the process of fumbling around with them). and was trying to get an idea of the amount of time that is commonly spent working on one of these challenges.
The job you did on this one, of course, is spectacular. A J, how long did you spend with this one, and do most of the members here spend hours, days, months, whatever? working on these files? I have tried some of these challenges, and spent hours working on them, only to delete the mess I have made. I know that you can't just rush your way through these, but was trying to get an idea of how long you are likely to spend before you say "enough, already"

I think my black & white version took me around 3 - 3 1/2 hours, and the colorization took about 1 hour. I don't know how long other folks work on restorations, but I do know that heavily damaged photos take many hours and a lot of patience.
If you haven't already read through Katrin Eismann's Photoshop Restoration & Retouching book, I suggest you do, and it will undoubtly improve your skills.
