I decided to try another, this time concentrating on the pumpkin. I left the original background in place as I imagined this excited kid gathering his buddies around in the barn to show them what he grew. I also didn't want to take the focus away from the pumpkin by having an exotic background.
I selected the boy's eyes and mouth and created a new layer via copy. I moved it over the pumpkin and tweaked the size and orientation slightly. I used a feathered eraser at 10% opacity to erase the area around the mouth and eyes until it blended. I didn't like the look of the eye on the right so I copied the eye on the left, flipped it horizontal and replaced the old one. I changed the skin tones to match the surrounding pumpkin and used the dodge and burn tools to complete the blend. Finally, I adjusted the catch lights on the eyes to match.
