Doug:
I really like what you did!
In looking at the two vesrions side by side, the new version is sharper with more detail. The overall picture has nicer toning. I don't think you should desaturate anything other than maybe the sky. The additional detail on the roofs stands out. But the clarity of the faces and horses is just outstanding!.
You've really done a tremendous job on this exacting restoration.

Thanks Alan, and right again about the sky, (took it down 13 %). I sometimes get stuck comparing new to old and being satisfied with the improvement, instead of looking at the restoration only and re-checking the basics.

Doug:
This looks so much brighter and clearer.
The original was great but this is even better!
You would probably get locked up in this country for fiddling with horse hooves!!
Like Alan, your attention to detail is outstanding.

Thanks Steve. I think it's an improvement over the maple syrup look. Hoof fiddling in Missouri was probably a hangin offence.

Doug - I just came back and looked at your final work on this. Fantastic job! I think the "yellow" tint works, but maybe the sky could look a bit more "skyish" - few light clouds, etc. You almost completely rebuilt the shed at the left of the pix. Great job! Great Grandpop's face actually resembles other pix I have of him. Super. Tree, log, horses, people, house - all excellent detail and crispness. Glad you maintained original look of the windows - gives character to the photo. You kept the people/horses the focal point. Very nice job! You're a pro. This was a toughie. I did a BIT of work on it few years ago, but it was soooo overwhelming - gotta get back to it one day.

Thank you Frieda. It's always very gratifying to get a thumbs up from someone related to a photo.

ditto on the sky, maybe some ghost-clouds with a more defined curve-gradient and as far as the color goes, maybe just completely desaturate and go with a mild gray-bronze look. I would do it myself, but i gotta get at least SOME sleep before work! For what's there right NOW, it's all superb.
