Hi. This is my very first post. I just found this website and love it! I am new to retouching photos, but this is what I did:
I first used the healing and clone tools to clean up the scratches. I copied and pasted some of the good hair and outfit to the ruined parts, although I had a hard time with the outfit. I painted on layers and changed the opacity and blending modes to give it a little color. Whew! I worked hard on this, but it was fun. I have a lot to learn and look forward to learning here.

Angie,
Good job getting past the worst of the damage. I got nowhere trying to clone my way through it. Also impressive that you're doing a colored version to start with. However, I think your image would be much better if you had evened out the tones in her face before adding color. See my submission or some of the others for ideas on doing this. Overall, a very good first post, I'd say. -Mark

Thanks Mark. I really appreciate the encouragement. I am checking out everyone's pics and only hope I can eventually achieve the results I have seen posted. Thanks again- Angie

Welcome to RetouchPro Angie,

Good job on your first post.
This one was a lot of hard work.
I'm glad you had fun doing it.
You can get some great ideas on restoration just looking at other members posts and reading their descriptions.

Angie,

What a great start!
Your restoring skills are really good.
I think Vicki's dress would stand out better if the colour wasn't so close to the skin colour.
As Matt has commented, have a look at the descriptions of other posts and indeed there are some great tutorials on the site.
Keep it up Angie.

I would be proud if this was my first submission!

Cheers

Thanks everyone. I have been looking at other posts and have gotten some really good info. I ordered a book (Photoshop Restoration & Retouching, Second Edition by Katrin Eismann) that I hope will help also. It had a lot of good reviews on Amazon. Does anyone know if it's any good?

Angie,

In my opinion Katrin Eismann's is the best book
on restoration and retouching you can buy.
It's a wonderful book. It's full of great tutorials. And you can
download the photos in the book from her web site.
I am sure you will love the book and get lots of enjoyment
trying the tutorials.

Very good restoration and colourisation. I like the tone you brought together. And I appreciat your interests and talants.

Katrin's Book is really a Gift . You can keep it besides you while you are at work. It is very scientific as well as creative for the restorers, But you do'nt forget to add your contributions.

Thank you Vijayan. I have gotten Katrin's book and am learning so much by following her instructions. I like that you can use her website to follow along in the book. Also, her descriptions are technical without being boring. I think I may be a bit obsessed. I can't put it down!
