Removed background, scaled down the boy. Added a new background, made a new layer and added some dust.

Added a human hand, made it light green with a saturation layer and gave it a yellow glow. Gave the hand some earth around it.

Still like the idea, but I'm not satisfied with the looks of it... well, faking does not seem to bee my strong point

Marc,
Great concept. I like the eerie feel from the dark tone and wisps of fog. Can you share how you created this look? It's a look I would like to try adding to my own submission.
A few suggestions for making your 'fake' more convincing: The boy's shadow looks to me like it is cast towards the viewer. Instead, it should be cast to the left like the background shadows. Similarly, the earthen mound appears lit from the left rather than the right, and the green hand looks too bright relative to the rest of the scene. Finally, the pumpkin truncated by the headstone implies it's behind the headstone. However, the green hand shadow suggests the pumkin is next to the hand, i.e. in front of the headstone.

Hi Mark,

many thanks for your suggestions - indeed, now I see why this looks really unnatural... as it seems I should take a better look into such details - lightning on the earth mound and the hand are somewhat embarassing.

about the dark tone: first played a little with the levels of the original picture to reduce the contrast, then just pust a black layer above all and set it to luminiscent mode (40% oppacity) to make it darker (cemetary picture had been on a bright day, not really what I needed).

The fog has been created quite simple: marked some curved large areas with the lasso tool, faded the selection by 20 pix and filled this selection on a new layer with a bright color (#eeeeee). Reduced oppacity of the fog layer down to 35%.
Basically, I just followed the instructions of this (german) tutorial: http://www.photoshoptutorials.de/tut_foto02.php

Best regards,
Marc
