Hi,
very badly damaged picture you gave us... and I'd like to see your results after 20 hours of work on it.
Here's what I did to achieve my (really far from being perfect) result:
duplicated layer
used dark/light filter (default settings) to get more details
corrected levels
removed damaged border
set a a new layer as background with #bbbbbb color
copied picture, applied dust&scrates (settings: 6/2)
set the d&s layer into "darken mode", so it just covered the white scratches
cloned to fill the moving area on the left side
darkened the bleached-out area on the right side using the Burn tool
cloned and stamped a lot
best regards,
Marc

Very nice levels and clean-up of Mom, Dad and baby (a few cracks missed around Dad and baby's heads). I haven't got to the sides yet on mine, but might resort to cropping. Also nice job washing Dad's shirt, and extending sky and house.

Good work on dad's face - probably the key reason for the restoration.
Well done.

The charecters are almost revealed correctly, and I say It is a good restoration, but need some more concentration...

Thanks to all for the nice words...
Yepp, still a lot of work left on this picture. Though I could not restore the wall, even if I would take a month for it. *sigh*
